Work is nearly complete on a massive student accommodation complex on the edge of Coventry city centre which will house more than 900 students when complete. The construction of the 922-bed Paradise Street site is being undertaken by Galliford Try’s Building East Midlands business following a £52.5 million deal with the Elite Group. The new halls will stretch across three blocks of three, 12 and 14 storeys on the site of a former garage close to the city centre, with an additional two low-rise house blocks. Further landscaping has also been created, including a recreational area for students, along with office and maintenance facilities for management company AXO Student Living. Galliford Try is already building another large student accommodation site in Coventry, a £47.5 million 770-bed facility at Godiva Place.
AXO Student Living, who will manage the new facility, already run accommodation in Coventry at 15–23 Paradise Street, Sherbourne House, Vincent Street and 1 Broad Lane.A design and access statement submitted as part of the application said the site was perfectly located to provide accommodation for Coventry University students and would help regenerate the area.
It said: “The application site is located on the south eastern edge of the city centre and is within very close proximity to Coventry University’s facilities.
“Thus it is considered that the site is ideally located in sustainability terms to meet the identified need for further student accommodation.
“The proposed purpose-built student accommodation development will form part of the regeneration of the wider Paradise Street and London Road area located on the edge of the city centre.
“The proposal will enhance a previously run-down site and provide a sustainable location for student accommodation as services and amenities are located close by.”
